Del Conte, St. Catharines blank Thorold, 5-0

Marcus Del Conte made 29 saves to complete the shutout and led the St. Catharines Falcons to a 5-0 win against the Thorold Blackhawks.

St. Catharines pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 71 penalty minutes.

The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Thorold power plays. St. Catharines could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Falcons average 8.1 goals per game. St. Catharines' offense rang up 38 shots on Thorold's net.

The Falcons were helped by Ben Walsh, who grabbed one goal. Walsh scored on the power play 6:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. St. Catharines earned a power play opportunity when Owen Sobchak was put in the box for high sticking. Luke Karaim provided the assist. St. Catharines also got points from Jimmy Sheehan, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Mitch Bennett, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. St. Catharines also got a goal from Greg Jambrosich as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Jesse Miller, Julian Luciani, and Anthony Pullia, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Thorold had been spending in the box. The Blackhawks were held below their usual level of production. Thorold puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

The Falcons registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For St. Catharines, Walsh, Miller, and Braeden Kavaravtzis were ejected from the contest. The Blackhawks' Vinny Merante stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Team's Denis Creighton and Dan Chudobiak were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
