Christou leads Niagara Falls over Port Colborne, 7-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks' Michael Christou had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-2 win over the Port Colborne Pirates.

Christou found the back of the net on the power play 4:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls and again while 22 seconds into the second to make the score 3-0 Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Canucks made Port Colborne's goaltenders to work in net, firing 31 shots and forcing 24 saves. Real Cormier made 15 stops and Morgan Hudson made nine. Niagara Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Canucks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Niagara Falls has scored at the pace of 4.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Canucks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Niagara Falls also got points from Cam Stewart, who also had one goal and two assists. Niagara Falls also had goals scored by Drew Berkel, who had two and Brad Kri and Garrett Gallardi, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Cole Vinnai, who had two, Darren Young, who had three, and Johnny Curran, Sean Farquharson, Mitch McIntosh, and Vito Scaringi, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Port Colborne puts an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game. The Pirates forced Niagara Falls goalie Hunter Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Port Colborne struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Canucks to score three power play goals on four chances.

Johnson recorded 36 saves for Niagara Falls. Team's Curran and Frank Nemeth were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Pirates ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Port Colborne, Damien Lalonde was ejected from the game.
