Thorold stifles Niagara Falls' comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Thorold Blackhawks, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Thorold and clinched a 5-3 victory.

The Blackhawks led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Thorold's Owen Sobchak's scored at 14:18 in the second period to put the Blackhawks up 5-1.

Joel Forestell was all over the ice for Thorold, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Forestell scored the first of his two goals at 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Dan Chudobiak provided the assist. Forestell's next tally made the score 4-0 Thorold with 1:04 left in the first period. Chudobiak assisted on the tally.

The Blackhawks made the Niagara Falls Canucks' netminders to work without much rest, firing 43 shots and forcing 38 saves. Dylan Pietrangelo made 20 stops and Hunter Johnson made 18. Thorold struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Niagara Falls to score three power play goals on five chances.

Thorold also got points from Sobchak, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Thorold also got a goal from Joe DiBiasi as well. More assists for Thorold came via Brian Brosnan, Myles Falasca, and Tanner Pagendam, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

Niagara Falls was helped by Michael Christou, who had two goals. Christou scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:28 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Thorold. A delay of game penalty on Vinny Merante had put the Canucks on the power play. Drew Berkel provided the assist. Christou's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Thorold with 19 seconds left in the second period. Garrett Gallardi assisted on the tally. Frank Nemeth also scored for Niagara Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Cole Langan and Marcus Michalski, who contributed one a piece.

The Blackhawks' Merante stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Thorold incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Niagara Falls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
