Brampton rips Guelph, 5-2Powerade Centre Mon, Oct 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Bombers were firing on all cylinders against the Guelph Hurricanes, and when the final buzzer sounded Bombers emerged with a 5-2 win. Brampton was sparked by Brad Sheppard, who racked up one goal and one assist. Sheppard scored 17:21 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Brampton. Kurt Wolff picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:46 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Bombers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Brampton also got points from Calvin Gomes, who also had one goal and one assist and Wolff, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brampton also got a goal from Brock Malatches as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Evan Capobianco, Matt Capicotto, Jacob Hanlon, Jake Gilmour, and Nik Borschevsky, who contributed one a piece. Guelph forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its four power plays. The Hurricanes were helped by Blair McIntosh, who finished with one goal. McIntosh scored 15:19 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Matt Lippa provided the assist. Patrick Kudla also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Daniel Cotroneo, Mike Wilkins, and Dustin Baker, who each chipped in one. Erik Angeli recorded 16 saves for the Bombers. Brampton ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For the Bombers, Capicotto and Phil Caputo were ejected from the contest. Lee Doherty rejected 25 shots on goal for Guelph. Team's Kudla and Chad Herron were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
