Cambridge squeaks by Waterloo, 5-3

The game between the Cambridge Winter Hawks and the Waterloo Siskins was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cambridge emerged with a 5-3 win.

The Winter Hawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Alex Bottigoni 4:45 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Cameron Pentsa was all over the ice for Cambridge, as he had two goals in the win. Pentsa scored at 1:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 17:33 into the third to make the score 4-2 Cambridge.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Winter Hawks' offense rang up 48 shots on Waterloo's net. Team could not crack the Siskins' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Cambridge additionally got points from Cody Gratton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tyler Snyder also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Brennon Pearce, who had one and Maxime Lamontagne, who had two.

Waterloo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The Siskins had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Waterloo got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Siskins were helped by Stephen Witiuk, who grabbed one goal. Witiuk scored 17:56 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cambridge. Keigan Goetz provided the assist. Waterloo also got points from Matthew Mah, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from James Soper as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Trevor Atkinson APJ, Eric Cimino, Ted Anstett, and Adam Campagnolo, who each chipped in one.

Lucas Machalski rejected 25 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Cambridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Aaron Duggan was ejected from the game. PJ Bridges recorded 43 saves for Waterloo. The Siskins registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For Waterloo, Connor Voigt was ejected from the game.
