Listowel boosted by Dekoning's play in net, beats Guelph 9-1Listowel Arena Fri, Oct 05, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Patrick Bell was all over the ice for the Listowel Cyclones, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Listowel's 9-1 win over the Guelph Hurricanes. Bell's tallies came at 17:03 into the second period to make the score 7-1 Listowel and 1:41 into the third to make the score 8-1 Listowel.Guelph was stymied by the Cyclones netminder Daniel Dekoning, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Dekoning certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.67 entering the contest. The Hurricanes' power play was ineffective against Listowel's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Cyclones racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game Listowel had been spending in the box. The Cyclones forced Guelph's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 43 shots and forcing 34 saves. Lee Doherty made 23 stops and Quinton Henry made 11. Listowel stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cyclones found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Listowel has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Cyclones were also effective in Guelph's zone, and came away with three goals. Listowel also got points from Kyle Ellis, who also registered one goal and one assist, Mac Nichol, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Tanner Mighton, who also had one goal and one assist, Scott Pawson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jacob Robitaille, who also registered one goal and two assists. Tyler Crawford also scored for Listowel. In addition, Listowel received assists from Caleb Cameron, who had five and Brooks Nelthorpe, Brandon Preistap, and Ben Shelley, who contributed one a piece. The Hurricanes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 15 minors and two majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. Guelph had been averaging 33.0 minutes in penalties per game. Listowel registered five goals on 16 power play opportunities. For the Cyclones, Brett Thompson and Shawn Moore were ejected from the contest. Team's Craig Martini, Chad Herron, and Bradley Yowart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
