Sturtz's hat trick boosts St. Catharines over Buffalo, 16-3

A hat trick by Andy Sturtz was the highlight in Falcons' 16-3 win against the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Sturtz's first goal came 6:56 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:05 into the first and at 12:24 into the second.

The St. Catharines Falcons scored early and often, and held a 5-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

St. Catharines forced Buffalo's netminders to work in net, getting 54 shots and forcing 38 saves. Ian Shorthouse made 24 stops and Brandon Klein made 14. The Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Blades to score on any of their four power plays. St. Catharines outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Falcons average 8.3 goals per contest. St. Catharines' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

St. Catharines also got points from Ben Walsh, who also registered two goals and three assists, Kyle Woodhouse, who also had one goal and two assists, Greg Jambrosich, who also racked up one goal and four assists, Tyler Jackson, who also tallied three goals and one assist, Dan MacEachern, who also registered one goal and three assists, Jesse Miller, who also had one goal and one assist, Julian Luciani, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Luke Karaim, who also registered one goal and two assists. St. Catharines also got a goal from Anthony Pullia as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Spencer DeWolfe, who had three, Jimmy Sheehan, Brady Allen, and Braeden Kavaravtzis, who contributed one a piece, and Koddi Quick and Mitch Bursey, who each chipped in two.

Penalties took their toll on Buffalo, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Josh Gordon, who finished with one goal. Gordon scored 2:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Gary Seitz provided the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Domenic Gruttadauria, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tyler Kessler also scored for Buffalo. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were John Ferris, Nick Berst, and Tyler Gallagher, who contributed one a piece.

Jonathon D Ilario recorded 21 saves for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Buffalo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
