St. Thomas boosted by Edwards' play in net, beats St. Marys 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Donald Edwards helped the St. Thomas Stars defeat the St. Marys Lincolns, 2-1.

St. Thomas was paced by Mike Iacocca, who tallied one goal and one assist. Iacocca scored 16:26 into the third period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Drew Collinson provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:35 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Marys to score on any of its five power plays. St. Thomas' offense rang up 47 shots on the Lincolns' net.

St. Thomas also got a goal from Braden Hellems as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Martin Kudla and Trevor Abbott, who each chipped in one.

St. Marys excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Lincolns were held below their usual level of production. St. Marys puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Stars were unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Lincolns were led by Sean Consitt, who scored the team's only goal. Consitt scored 19:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. Reid Oliver picked up the assist.

Donald Edwards made 34 saves for St. Thomas on 35 shots. The Stars ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For St. Thomas, Daniel Cotroneo was ejected from the game. Craig Wood rejected 45 shots on goal for St. Marys. The Lincolns ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dean Pawlaczky was ejected from the game.
