Chatham downs St. Marys in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Chatham Maroons' Steven Szekesy scored 2:27 into overtime to beat the St. Marys Lincolns, 5-4 (OT).

St. Marys could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Chatham made it 4-2 on a power play goal by Eric Palazzolo at 17:46 in the second period. The Lincolns pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Reid Oliver at 1:14 in the third period.

The Maroons was paced on offense by Palazzolo and Szekesy, who combined for five points. Palazzolo tallied two goals and Szekesy also added one goal and two assists.

Chatham's offense rang up 50 shots on St. Marys' net.

Chatham additionally got points from Szekesy, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Sean Myers, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Chatham also got a goal from Trevor Richardson as well. In addition, Chatham received assists from Jake Flegel, who had one and Nate Pietens and Michael Verboom, who each chipped in two.

The Lincolns kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darien Ekblad made 32 saves on 36 shots.

St. Marys also got points from Sean Consitt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Bryan McCauley also scored for St. Marys. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Owen MacDonald, who had two and Calvin Penney, Tyson Baker, and Jonathan Rizzo, who contributed one a piece.

Chatham totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Flegel was ejected from the game. Craig Wood rejected 45 shots on goal for St. Marys. The Lincolns totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For St. Marys, Baker was ejected from the game.
