GAME RECAP

Listowel survives Guelph comeback, wins 3-1

Sleeman Centre    Sat, Sep 29, 2012

The Guelph Hurricanes almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Listowel Cyclones managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end.

Listowel led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cyclones' Sam Feagan's scored on the power play at 2:10 in the second period to put Listowel up 3-0.

The Cyclones' Daniel Dekoning was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Dekoning will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.5.

Guelph's power play was ineffective against Listowel's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Cyclones' offense rang up 47 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Team could not crack Guelph's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Listowel could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cyclones were helped by Patrick Bell, who registered one goal. Bell scored 9:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Listowel. Tanner Mighton provided the assist. In addition, Listowel received assists from Caleb Cameron, who had two and Kyle Ellis and Jacob Robitaille, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes were led by Blair McIntosh, who scored the team's only goal. McIntosh scored on the power play 13:05 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Listowel. Guelph had taken the advantage when Listowel's Shawn Moore got sent off for head contact. Mike Wilkins picked up the assist.

Lee Doherty rejected 44 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitch Klie was ejected from the game.
