Caledonia shrugs off penalties, upends Stratford, 5-2Cayuga Arena Fri, Sep 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Caledonia Corvairs were able to defeat the Stratford Cullitons, 5-2. Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes. The Corvairs managed to hold Stratford's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. Caledonia was helped by Brendan Bomberry, who had two goals. Bomberry scored the first of his two goals at 10:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Tyler Norrie picked up the assist. Bomberry's next tally made the score 4-0 Caledonia with 2:50 left in the first period. Scott Dorian provided the assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Mitch Brown, who had one and Connor Murphy, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Jeff Swift, who had two and Ryan Blunt and Brandon Montour, who each chipped in one. The Cullitons forced the Corvairs goalie Zach Easvet to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Caledonia's Easvet stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Corvairs registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Caledonia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Abraham was ejected from the game. Joe Metzger made 17 saves for Stratford on 22 shots. The Cullitons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
