Listowel shrugs off penalties, upends Cambridge, 6-3Listowel Arena Fri, Sep 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Listowel Cyclones were able to defeat the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 6-3. Listowel was sparked by Mac Nichol, who racked up one goal and one assist. Nichol scored on the power play 18:32 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Listowel. The Cyclones earned a power play opportunity when Mitch Figueirdo was put in the box for butt-ending. Kyle Ellis assisted on the tally. Listowel made Cambridge's goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. Figueirdo made 25 stops and Lucas Machalski made eight. The Cyclones stifled the Winter Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Listowel surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Cyclones average 3.5 goals per game. Listowel additionally got points from Caleb Cameron, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Chris Gillman, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jacob Robitaille, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Listowel also got a goal from Shawn Moore as well. In addition, Listowel received assists from Tyler Crawford, Brett Thompson, and Colten Pickett, who contributed one a piece and Tanner Mighton and Sam Feagan, who each chipped in two. Cambridge forced Listowel goalie Drew Reinhardt to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The Winter Hawks' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Cambridge is averaging 2.4 goals against for the season. The Winter Hawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 33 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays. Cambridge was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 10 chances with a man advantage. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Winter Hawks were helped by Trevor Hache, who registered one goal. Hache scored 1:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Brandon Plourde provided the assist. Cambridge also got points from Plourde, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Christian Barnard also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Cody Gratton, Aaron Duggan, Maxime Lamontagne, and Andrew Coupland, who contributed one a piece. Drew Reinhardt made 40 saves for the Cyclones on 43 shots. Listowel incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cambridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Decker was ejected from the game.
