St. Catharines wins tough contest against Welland, 4-2Jack Gatecliff Rink Fri, Sep 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Catharines Falcons gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Welland Jr. Canadians. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jesse Miller's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. St. Catharines was paced by Miller, who racked up one goal and one assist. Miller scored 12:31 into the third period to make the score 3-2 St. Catharines. Luke Karaim assisted on the tally. The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Welland power plays. St. Catharines forced Welland goalie Chris McDougall to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. St. Catharines also got a goal from Jimmy Sheehan as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Andy Sturtz, who had two and Brad Col, Ben Walsh, Dan MacEachern, and Julian Luciani, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Canadians were helped by Ryan Migliaccio, who had one goal. Migliaccio scored 1:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Brooker Muir provided the assist. Braden Curry also scored for Welland. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Daryl Thomson, who had one. Marcus Del Conte made 17 saves for the Falcons on 19 shots. St. Catharines incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Falcons, Luciani was ejected from the game. McDougall recorded 29 saves for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For Welland, Cole McKnight and Chris Langdon were ejected from the contest.
