Sarnia uses shootout to best London, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Sarnia Legionnaires defeated the London Nationals in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. London's shootout goal was scored by Paul Hopkins. Sarnia's other shootout goal was scored by Jason Teschke.

The Legionnaires' penalty kill excelled, as Sarnia gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Legionnaires forced the Nationals goalie Nick Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Sarnia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

The Legionnaires were helped by Zack Tuchklaper, who tallied one goal. Tuchklaper scored 8:18 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Sarnia. Matt Cimetta assisted on the tally. Teschke also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Jeff King, Bobby King, and Davis Boyer, who each chipped in one.

London was helped by Derek Todosichuk, who had one goal. Todosichuk scored 1:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Lance Pridham picked up the assist. London also got points from Blake Thomas, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. London also got a goal from Jonathan Sims as well. More assists for London came via Shawn Crowley, Keaton Ratcliffe, Chris Carreiro, and Aaron Dartch, who contributed one a piece.

Sean Parker made 23 saves for Sarnia on 27 shots. The Legionnaires registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Dampier rejected 35 shots on goal for the Nationals. London incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
