Niagara Falls uses big second period to beat Buffalo, 7-2

The Buffalo Jr. Blades allowed the Niagara Falls Canucks to net four goals during the second period and fell, 7-2.

Cam Stewart was all over the ice for Niagara Falls, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Stewart scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:50 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls. The Canucks had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Andrew Herrmann got sent off for cross checking. Cole Langan picked up the assist. Stewart's next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 Niagara Falls with 6:40 left in the second period. Brad Kri provided the assist.

Niagara Falls pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 54 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:17 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Canucks forced the Jr. Blades goalie Ian Shorthouse to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Niagara Falls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Canucks have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Niagara Falls capitalized on Buffalo's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Niagara Falls additionally got points from Kri, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Cole Vinnai, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Drew Berkel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Michael Christou also scored for Niagara Falls. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Garrett Gallardi, who had one and Mitch McIntosh and Darren Young, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. Buffalo surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Jr. Blades were led by Tom Hanna, who had one goal and one assist. Hanna scored on the power play 2:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Buffalo had gained a power play chance when Sean Farquharson was whistled for interference. Jon Haynes assisted on the tally. Buffalo also got a goal from Tyler Kessler as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Josh Marr, who had one.

Hunter Johnson rejected 28 shots on goal for the Canucks. Team's Kri and Spencer Leenders were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Shorthouse recorded 40 saves for the Jr. Blades. Buffalo registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Jr. Blades, Nick Berst and Tyler Gallagher were ejected from the contest.
