Waterloo squeaks by Caledonia, 6-4

The Waterloo Siskins and the Caledonia Corvairs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Waterloo made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Siskins gained the winning advantage on a goal by Christian Mroczkowski 11:26 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Caledonia's power play was ineffective against Waterloo's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Siskins were led by Mroczkowski, who tallied one goal.

Waterloo kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justis Husak made 27 saves on 33 shots. The Siskins outdid their season average for goals scored. Waterloo averages 3.5 goals per game. The Siskins got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Waterloo also got points from Ryan Doucette, who also had one goal and one assist, Adam Campagnolo, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Eric Fischer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Jacob Ariss as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Connor Voigt, who had two and Trevor Atkinson APJ, Eric Cimino, Brandon Jones, Matthew Mah, and Brock Campbell, who each chipped in one.

Caledonia's offense operated below it season average. The Corvairs put an average of 6.3 pucks into the net per game. Caledonia's offense rang up 37 shots on Waterloo's net.

The Corvairs were helped by Nate Mitton, who tallied one goal. Mitton scored 14:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. Mitch Brown picked up the assist. Jeff Swift also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Ryan Blunt, Nick McMullen, Brier Jonathan, and Connor Murphy, who contributed one a piece.

PJ Bridges rejected 33 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ted Anstett was ejected from the game. Caledonia incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Corvairs, Brendan Bomberry was ejected from the game.
