Fort Erie uses shootout to best Niagara Falls, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fort Erie Meteors defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Niagara Falls' shootout goal was scored by Mitch McIntosh. In addition to the clincher, Fort Erie got a shootout goal from Jesse Parker.

The Meteors came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fort Erie trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by the Canucks' Michael Christou at 17:31 in the second period. The Meteors knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Parker at 18:16 in the third period.

Richard DeMarco was all over the ice for Fort Erie, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. DeMarco scored the first of his two goals at 2:01 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls. Austin Carroll provided the assist. DeMarco's next tally made the score 3-2 Niagara Falls with 12:20 left in the third period. The Meteors had taken the advantage when Niagara Falls' Christou got sent off for checking from behind. Anthony Passero picked up the assist.

Fort Erie kept the Canucks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Pietrangelo made 49 saves on 53 shots. The Meteors' penalty kill unit could not stop Niagara Falls' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Riley Devine, Jordan Bailey, and Nigel Slade, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Niagara Falls had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Canucks forced Fort Erie goalie Connor Visca to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Niagara Falls was helped by Drew Berkel, who registered one goal. Berkel scored 2:16 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Cole Vinnai provided the assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Cam Stewart as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Garrett Gallardi, who had two and Brad Kri, McIntosh, and Cole Langan, who contributed one a piece.

Connor Visca made 34 saves for the Meteors on 37 shots. Fort Erie incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Canucks, Christou and Frank Nemeth were ejected from the contest.
