Cambridge outlasts Stratford, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Cambridge Winter Hawks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Stratford Cullitons.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mitch Facey at 8:53 of the third period.

Cambridge was sparked by Facey, who grabbed one goal and one assist.

The Winter Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Stratford power plays. Stratford's defense shut down Cambridge's forwards for much of the game, and the Winter Hawks got off only 14 shots during the contest.

Brandon Plourde also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Christian Barnard, Jimmy Roy, Andrew Coupland, and Alex Bottigoni, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cambridge to score on any of its three power plays. Stratford's offense operated below it season average. The Cullitons average 4.2 goals per game. The Winter Hawks were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Stratford was helped by Trevor Sauder, who racked up one goal. Sauder scored 18:18 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Dylan Wettlaufer assisted on the tally. Stratford also got a goal from Shane O Brien as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jake Pleon, Mitch Brooks, and Andrew Barton, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Machalski made 29 saves for Cambridge on 31 shots. The Winter Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nick Caldwell made 11 saves before being replaced by Joe Metzger, who took the loss and made zero saves. The Cullitons incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
