Kitchener outlasts Listowel, 5-4Listowel Arena Fri, Sep 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen and the Listowel Cyclones were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Kitchener made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-4. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Keli Grant secured the win for the Dutchmen with a goal in the third period. Grant had two goals and one assist to lead Kitchener. Grant scored the first of his two goals at 8:12 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Hoffman assisted on the tally. Grant's next tally made the score 5-4 Kitchener with 27 seconds left in the third period. Hoffman picked up the assist. The Dutchmen's offense rang up 49 shots on Listowel's net. Kitchener cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. Kitchener also got points from Hoffman, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Chris Eckert, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Steven Jakiela also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Matt Guild, Keegan Calder, and Dylan Bursey, who each chipped in one. The Dutchmen were unable to stop the Cyclones from sending pucks towards the net, and Listowel eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Cyclones were led by Ben Shelley, who racked up one goal and one assist. Shelley scored 7:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Chris Gillman assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Listowel included Caleb Cameron, Dylan Sayle, and Jacob Robitaille, who scored one goal each. More assists for Listowel came via Kyle Ellis, who had two and Mac Nichol and Tanner Mighton, who contributed one each. Marc Williams made 34 saves for Kitchener on 38 shots. The Dutchmen ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Clampitt was ejected from the game. Drew Reinhardt rejected 44 shots on goal for Listowel. The Cyclones totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Listowel, Nichol was ejected from the game.
