Murphy's hat trick boosts Caledonia over Brampton, 8-2

The Brampton Bombers could not stop the Caledonia Corvairs' Connor Murphy, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-2 win.

Murphy got on the scoresheet 13:24 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:10 into the second and at 7:45 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:12 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Caledonia forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and three majors for 77 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs had been averaging 62.0 minutes in penalties per game. Caledonia made Brampton's goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 46 shots and forcing 38 saves. Bryan Raymond made 38 stops and Erik Angeli made zero. The defensemen of the Corvairs were also effective in the Bombers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Caledonia also got points from Matthew Henderson, who also had one goal and one assist and Brendan Bomberry, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Ryan Moran, who had one and Dalton Riley, who had two. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Justin Abraham and Scott Dorian, who each chipped in one and Jeff Swift, Tyler Norrie, and Brandon Montour, who contributed two a piece.

Brampton was often in penalty trouble, totaling 17 minors and two majors for 114 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 44.0 minutes per game the Bombers had been spending in the box. Caledonia was unable to stop Brampton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bombers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Brampton also got a goal from Calvin Gomes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Evan Capobianco, Jake Gilmour, and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in one.

Zach Easvet rejected 32 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered three goals on 16 power play opportunities. Team's Fabrizio Ricci, Swift, Greg Christmas, Nathan Ferris, and Montour were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Brampton registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Bombers, Matt Capicotto, Jacob Hanlon, Nik Borschevsky, Brendan Lyons, and Michael Darrigo were ejected from the contest.
