The St. Thomas Stars' Chris Maton had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-3 win over the Chatham Maroons. Maton found the back of the net 13:28 into the second period to make the score 4-1 St. Thomas and again while 18:52 into the third to make the score 7-3 St. Thomas.St. Thomas pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 48 penalty minutes. The Stars kept Chatham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Darien Ekblad made 36 saves on 43 shots. St. Thomas had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. The defensemen of the Stars were also effective in the Maroons' zone, and came away with three goals. St. Thomas also got points from Ashton Waters, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Scott Mitchell, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Luc Knight, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Trevor Abbott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Blair Mincer also scored for St. Thomas. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Matt Schurr, Mike Iacocca, Martin Kudla, Braden Hellems, Michael Lucifora, and Drew Collinson, who contributed one a piece. Chatham was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 33.0 minutes per game the Maroons had been spending in the box. Chatham forced St. Thomas goalie Luke Bierworth to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Maroons were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Chatham was helped by Blake Blondeel, who racked up two goals. Blondeel scored the first of his two goals at 4:56 into the third period to make the score 5-2 St. Thomas. Ian Faubert assisted on the tally. Blondeel's next tally made the score 5-3 St. Thomas with 5:21 left in the third period. The Maroons played down a man on Steven Beenackers' high sticking. More assists for Chatham came via Nate Pietens, Jay Ritchie, and Sean Myers, who each chipped in one. Bierworth recorded 38 saves for the Stars. Team's Beenackers and Michael Levesque were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
