Caledonia uses fast start to beat Brampton, 11-2

A five-goal first period deficit cost the Brampton Bombers, which could not recover and fell to the Caledonia Corvairs, 11-2.

Brandon Montour had two goals and two assists to lead Caledonia. Montour scored the first of his two goals short handed at 7:40 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. A holding call on Ryan Blunt put the Corvairs on the penalty kill. Greg Christmas picked up the assist. Montour's next tally short handed made the score 4-0 Caledonia with 7:28 left in the first period. Connor Murphy assisted on the tally.

Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 52 penalty minutes.

The Corvairs forced Brampton's goalies to work between the pipes, totaling 33 shots and forcing 22 saves. Erik Angeli made zero stops and Bryan Raymond made 22. Caledonia stifled the Bombers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Corvairs surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Caledonia averages 6.3 goals per game. The Corvairs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in four goals.

Caledonia also got points from Matthew Henderson, who also had one goal and one assist, Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist, Dalton Riley, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Nate Mitton, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Nick McMullen, who had one and Fabrizio Ricci, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Mitch Brown, who had three and Ryan Moran, Justin Abraham, Jeff Swift, Tyler Norrie, Brendan Bomberry, and Zach Vanlouwe, who contributed one a piece.

Brampton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. The Bombers' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on 16 chances.

Brampton also got a goal from Jake Derkach as well. More assists for Brampton came via Jacob Hanlon, Francois Cote, and Michael Darrigo, who each chipped in one.

Zach Easvet recorded 17 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs registered three goals on six power play opportunities.
