Thorold survives penalties, beats Port Colborne, 5-2West Side Arena Fri, Sep 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Thorold Blackhawks were able to defeat the Port Colborne Pirates, 5-2. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:43 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Thorold was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and three majors for 47 minutes in penalty time. The Blackhawks had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. Thorold's offense rang up 33 shots on Port Colborne's net. The Blackhawks were led by Mark Arnone, who tallied one goal and one assist. Arnone scored on the power play 13:56 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Thorold earned a power play opportunity when Zoran Popel was put in the box for cross checking. Matt Pizzo picked up the assist. Thorold also had goals scored by Joel Forestell, who had two and Mackenzie Mac Avoy and Dan Chudobiak, who each put in one. The Pirates were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Port Colborne was led by Dima Lavrenov, who finished with one goal. Lavrenov scored 14:58 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Thorold. Bryan Komasara provided the assist. Pat Murphy also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Michael Sharp, Jordan Bolibruck, and Paul Moskalyk, who each chipped in one. Vinny Merante rejected 38 shots on goal for Thorold. The Blackhawks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Brian Fonseca, Kevin Lavoie, Owen Sobchak, and Ed Creighton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Real Cormier made 28 saves for the Pirates on 32 shots. For Port Colborne, Blaine Bechard and Sebastian Kanally were ejected from the contest.
