Thorold survives penalties, beats Buffalo, 7-0Thorold Community Arena Thu, Sep 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Buffalo Jr. Blades failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Thorold Blackhawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-0. Thorold was sparked by Robert MacFarlane, who tallied one goal and one assist. MacFarlane scored on the power play 4:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. The Blackhawks had gotten the advantage when Buffalo's Matt Diehl was sent off for tripping. Roger Sherwood provided the assist. Thorold put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Blades to score on any of their eight power plays. The Blackhawks was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Thorold allows 3.0 goals per game. The Blackhawks' offense rang up 44 shots on Buffalo's net. Thorold could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The Blackhawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Thorold additionally got points from Kevin Lavoie, who also registered two goals and one assist, Myles Falasca, who also had one goal and one assist, and Vince Dunn, who also registered one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Owen Sobchak as well. More assists for Thorold came via Tanner Pagendam, who had three and Matthew Hoszko, Andrew Santino, Mackenzie Mac Avoy, Mark Arnone, and Brendan Cullen, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blades could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. Blake Richard recorded 18 saves for Thorold. The Blackhawks registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Brandon Klein rejected 37 shots on goal for Buffalo.
