Metro squeaks by Toledo, 4-3Team Toledo Ice House Sun, Mar 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Metro Jets gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Toledo Cherokee. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Michael Lawrence at 15:50 of the third period. Lawrence had two goals to lead Metro to victory. The Jets managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Metro finished below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Metro additionally got points from Matt Stirling, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Alex Holm also scored for Metro. In addition, Metro received assists from Chris Mayer, who had two and Mitchell Krust, Devon D'Angelo, Kyle Shreve, and Mike Gambino, who contributed one a piece. Toledo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cherokee were helped by Alec Gerred, who had one goal. Gerred scored 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ben Torchia provided the assist. Toledo also got a goal from Tyler Zalecki as well. More assists for Toledo came via Jordan Prewitt, who had two and Brody Duncan, Austin Turner, and Connor Crowe, who each chipped in one. Riley Corbin rejected 19 shots on goal for the Jets. Nate Gay took the loss and made 18 saves before being replaced by Nathan Miller who made two saves. Toledo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities.
