Metro uses big second period to beat Toledo, 6-0

The Toledo Cherokee was within striking distance after one period, but the Metro Jets put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-0 victory.

Metro was boosted by Riley Corbin, who turned in a shutout with 30 saves. Corbin managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.53 prior to the game.

The Jets were paced by Mike Gambino, who racked up one goal and one assist. Gambino scored on the power play 5:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Metro. Metro had gained a power play chance when Nate Gay was whistled for delay of game. Alex Holm provided the assist.

The Jets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Metro surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jets average 3.5 goals per game.

Metro additionally got points from Doug Andrews, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Zach Mac Kay, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Holm, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Metro also got a goal from Andrew Palushaj as well. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Matt Stirling, who had four and Kyle Shreve and Chris Mayer, who contributed one a piece.

Toledo could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Cherokee put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Toledo's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Metro's power play unit.

The Jets ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Cherokee's starting goalie, Nate Gay, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nathan Miller, who stopped five shots. Toledo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
