Layman's goals lift Toledo to 4-1 victory over Michigan

Brandon Layman was all over the ice for the Toledo Cherokee, as he tallied two goals in Toledo's 4-1 win over the Michigan Mountain Cats.

Layman scored at 5:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toledo and again while 15:58 into the third to make the score 4-1 Toledo.

Toledo additionally got points from Tyler Zalecki, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brandin Thelen also scored for Toledo. More assists for Toledo came via Jordan Fogarty, who had two and Devon Eckman, Brody Duncan, Alec Gerred, and Connor Crowe, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cherokee to score on any of their seven power plays.

The Mountain Cats were led by James Gleason, who scored the team's only goal. Gleason scored on the power play 18:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Michigan had taken the advantage when Toledo's Kyler Omey got sent off for interference. Derek Ried provided the assist.

Nathan Miller rejected 18 shots on goal for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Mountain Cats' Spencer Craig stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Michigan incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
