Alexandria vanquishes North Iowa in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Garrett Skinner netted the deciding goal for the Alexandria Blizzard in the shootout as Blizzard prevailed over the North Iowa Bulls, 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. North Iowa got a shootout goal from Richie Marenis. Alexandria's other shootout goal was scored by Ricky Seidel.

Seidel was all over the ice for the Blizzard, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Seidel scored the first of his two goals short handed at 10:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Alexandria was on a disadvantage when Danny Pelzer went off the ice for tripping. Ian Eckland picked up the assist. Seidel's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 Alexandria with 22 seconds left in the third period. Chayce Coenen provided the assist.

The Blizzard pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 39 penalty minutes.

Alexandria also got a goal from Austin Rudnick as well. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Will Becker, who had one.

The Bulls did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. North Iowa puts an average of 6.1 pucks into the net per game. The Bulls kept Alexandria's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dom DeGuisseppi made 41 saves on 45 shots. North Iowa's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Bulls average 2.4 goals allowed per game.

North Iowa was helped by Conor Jonasson, who tallied one goal. Jonasson scored 12:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alexandria. Bobby Chapman assisted on the tally. Patrick Sivets also scored for North Iowa. More assists for North Iowa came via Taylor Brown, who had two and Connor Langfield, Marenis, and Bryan Broders, who each chipped in one.

The Blizzard registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Bulls' Matthew Bartels stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. North Iowa incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Bulls, Jonasson was ejected from the game.
