The Flint Jr. Generals beat the Michigan Mountain Cats, 1-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Trevor Benaglio provided Flint with the game-winning tally when he scored 2:31 into the the first period. Phillip Garza assisted on the tally.The Jr. Generals were paced by Benaglio, who racked up one goal. Flint excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Jr. Generals did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Flint puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Generals forced Michigan goalie Ian Dvorak to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. More assists for Flint came via Edward Osowski, who had one. The Mountain Cats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Flint to score on any of its six power plays. Michigan was held below its usual level of production. The Mountain Cats average 2.5 goals per game. Michigan could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. The Jr. Generals' Anders Franke stopped 20 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Flint incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Jr. Generals, Eric Jones was ejected from the game. Ian Dvorak made 39 saves for the Mountain Cats on 40 shots. Michigan ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Ried was ejected from the game.
