Andrews' big game bests Quad City in 9-2 Metro win

Doug Andrews had five goals and three assists to lead the Metro Jets to a 9-2 victory over the Quad City Jr. Flames.

Andrews notched his first tally 8:25 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:50 into the first, at 15:39 into the second, at 5:45 into the third, and at 5:53 into the third.

Quad City fell victim to a deadly Metro power play, which ripped the Jr. Flames for four goals.

The Jets made Jr. Flames' goaltenders to work in net, launching 44 shots and forcing 35 saves. Robby Vukelich made 30 stops and Hunter Tetreault made five. Metro's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Quad City power plays. The Jets bested their season scoring average. This season, Metro averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Metro also got points from Andrew Palushaj, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Michael Lawrence, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Kyle Shreve, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Metro also got a goal from Derek Britton as well. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Chris Mayer, who had three and Matt Stirling, TJ Krajewski, Brad Hepler, Alex Holm, and Thomas Evans, who each chipped in one.

Quad City forced the Jets goalie Riley Corbin to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Jr. Flames' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Quad City finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Corbin rejected 35 shots on goal for Metro. The Jets incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
