Toledo wins tough contest against Battle Creek, 5-3

The game between the Toledo Cherokee and the Battle Creek Revolution was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Toledo emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brandon Layman at 10:12 of the third period.

Layman was all over the ice for the Cherokee, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Layman scored the first of his two goals at 1:25 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Zalecki provided the assist. Layman's next tally made the score 4-3 Toledo with 9:48 left in the third period. Blake Podgorski assisted on the tally.

Toledo's offense rang up 43 shots on Battle Creek's net.

Toledo additionally got points from Zachary Armstrong, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Zalecki, who also had one goal and one assist, and Jordan Fogarty, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Toledo received assists from Jake Manders, Kyler Omey, and Ben Torchia, who each chipped in one.

The Revolution put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cherokee to score on any of their five power plays.

Battle Creek was helped by Stephen Comperchi, who tallied one goal. Comperchi scored on the power play 19:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Revolution had gotten the advantage when Toledo's Jordan Prewitt was sent off for too many men. Kyle Ward provided the assist. Battle Creek also got points from James Romberger, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Eric Tucker also scored for Battle Creek. More assists for Battle Creek came via Austin Hill, who had one.

Nathan Miller made 26 saves for the Cherokee on 29 shots. Toledo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Hughes rejected 38 shots on goal for Battle Creek. The Revolution incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
