Alexandria outlasts Minnesota, 4-2

The Alexandria Blizzard gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Alexandria gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mick Dhein 19:19 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Blizzard got the win behind a great game by Tanner Duffney, who had two goals and one assist. Duffney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alexandria. A holding penalty on Alex Yde had put Alexandria on the power play. Richie Brown assisted on the tally. Duffney's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Alexandria with 20 seconds left in the third period. Ian Eckland provided the assist.

The Blizzard racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Alexandria surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blizzard forced Minnesota goalie Jared Stearns to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Alexandria also got points from Eckland, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Kyle Kuntz, who had one and Garrett Skinner, who had three.

The Flying Aces were helped by Payton Trammel, who grabbed one goal. Trammel scored 13:52 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tate Sykes assisted on the tally. Mason Wyman also scored for Minnesota. More assists for Minnesota came via Dylan Nelson and Jared Sprink, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Miller rejected 22 shots on goal for Alexandria. The Blizzard registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Alexandria, Ryen Zerfas was ejected from the game. Stearns recorded 36 saves for Minnesota. The Flying Aces totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
