Gay leads Toledo to shutout victory over Battle Creek

Nate Gay made 27 saves to complete the shutout and led the Toledo Cherokee to a 4-0 win against the Battle Creek Revolution.

Toledo was led by Connor Crowe, who had one goal. Crowe scored short handed 3:59 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Toledo. An elbowing call on Jake Manders put the Cherokee on the penalty kill. Andrew Benyo provided the assist.

Battle Creek was unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cherokee eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Toledo also got points from Tyler Zalecki, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jordan Fogarty, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brett Podgorski also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Brandon Layman, who had two and Alec Gerred and Nicholas Brazeal, who each chipped in one.

The Revolution did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Battle Creek averages 2.1 goals per game.

Toledo totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Jackson Steltmann made 32 saves for the Revolution on 36 shots. Battle Creek totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
