GAME RECAP

Cleveland blows out Flint, 4-1

Iceland Arena    Sun, Jan 27, 2013

The Flint Jr. Generals had trouble finding ways to stop the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, which beat Jr. Generals, 4-1.

Cleveland got the win with help from a great game by Andrew Mitch, who had one goal and three assists. Mitch scored 2:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cleveland.

Flint was stymied by the Jr. Lumberjacks netminder David Heflin, who stopped 43 shots during the victory. The solid play of Heflin will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.24.

Cleveland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Jr. Lumberjacks kept the Jr. Generals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ted Barile made 28 saves on 32 shots. Cleveland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cleveland also got points from Scott Cuthrell, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Cameron Dimmitt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. David Fassbender also scored for Cleveland. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Kyle Gonzalez and Nick Balavich, who each chipped in one.

Flint did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jr. Generals put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. Flint forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie Heflin to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Jr. Generals' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Flint finished with 28 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Generals were led by Jacob Peacock, who scored the team's only goal. Peacock scored 1:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint. Jacob Howie picked up the assist.

Cleveland registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
