North Iowa uses fast start to beat Quad City, 14-1

The North Iowa Bulls jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Quad City Jr. Flames, 14-1.

North Iowa got the win thanks to a great game by Matt Kroska, who had one goal and three assists. Kroska scored 8:26 into the first period to make the score 3-1 North Iowa. Tony Paulson assisted on the tally.

The Bulls were led by goalie Aaron Davis, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Davis managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.0 prior to the game.

North Iowa forced Jr. Flames' goaltenders to work all game long, racking up 63 shots and forcing 49 saves. Robby Vukelich made 17 stops and Jake Leon made 32. The Bulls stifled Quad City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. North Iowa's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Bulls average 6.3 goals per contest. North Iowa struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 22 penalty minutes for three opposing power plays. The Bulls got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

North Iowa additionally got points from Ron Lindgren, who also registered one goal and one assist, Connor Langfield, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Patrick Sivets, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Tyler Burg, who also had one goal and one assist, Paulson, who also registered one goal and two assists, Bobby Chapman, who also tallied two goals and one assist, James Hughes, who also had one goal and two assists, Timothy Santopoalo, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Taylor Brown, who also racked up two goals and one assist. North Iowa also got a goal from Eric Behrend as well. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Bryan Broders, who had two, Conor Jonasson, who had four, and Matthew Kaitchuck, Jake Johnson, Tyler Richison, Kyle Krueger, and Andrew Halama, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Flames were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Quad City had been spending in the box. The Jr. Flames put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow North Iowa to score on any of its four power plays.

Quad City was led by Peter Coppola, who scored the team's only goal. Coppola scored 7:33 into the first period to make the score 2-1 North Iowa. Anthony Caroselli provided the assist.

Team's Kevin Stone and Joe Edwards were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
