Toledo rips Metro, 5-2

The Metro Jets had trouble finding ways to stop the Toledo Cherokee, which beat Jets, 5-2.

Tyler Zalecki had one goal and two assists to lead Toledo. Zalecki scored 16:35 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Toledo. Brandon Layman assisted on the tally.

The Cherokee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Metro to score on any of its five power plays. Toledo forced the Jets goalie Riley Corbin to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Cherokee got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Toledo additionally got points from Layman, who also had one goal and one assist. Jake Manders also scored for Toledo. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Jordan Fogarty, who had two and Brandin Thelen, Blake Podgorski, Connor Crowe, Nicholas Brazeal, and Nate Gay, who each chipped in one.

Metro stifled Toledo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cherokee were unable to stop the Jets from sending pucks towards the net, and Metro eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Jets were helped by Kyle Shreve, who registered one goal. Shreve scored short handed 10:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Toledo. A high sticking call on Zach Mac Kay put Metro on the penalty kill. Doug Andrews picked up the assist. Metro also got a goal from Andrew Palushaj as well. In addition, Metro received assists from Travis Hargett and Matt Stirling, who contributed one a piece.

Toledo's Gay stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Cherokee incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Riley Corbin made 27 saves for the Jets on 31 shots. Metro incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
