North Iowa beats Quad City 11-1 as Johnson gets hat trick

The Quad City Jr. Flames could not stop the North Iowa Bulls' Jake Johnson, who tallied a hat trick in an 11-1 win.

Johnson notched his first tally 6:19 into the second period. He then added goals at 11:25 into the third and at 19:28 into the third.

North Iowa made Quad City's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 69 shots and forcing 58 saves. Robby Vukelich made 47 stops and Jake Leon made 11. The Bulls' goal total was higher than their season average. North Iowa has scored at the pace of 6.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

North Iowa also got points from Tyler Richison, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Matt Kroska, who also had one goal and one assist, Tony Paulson, who also registered one goal and one assist, James Hughes, who also racked up one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Bryan Broders, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Timothy Santopoalo, who also had one goal and three assists. North Iowa also got a goal from Kyle Krueger as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Eric Behrend, who had two and Matthew Kaitchuck, Ron Lindgren, Connor Langfield, Patrick Sivets, Andrew Halama, Logan Murphy, and Conor Jonasson, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Flames were led by Easton Halbert, who scored the team's only goal. Halbert scored on the power play 13:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Quad City earned a power play opportunity when Hughes was put in the box for checking from behind. Peter Coppola provided the assist.

Matthew Bartels made 20 saves for the Bulls on 21 shots. North Iowa totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Flames totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
