Battle Creek wins tough contest against Flint, 5-4

The Battle Creek Revolution gutted out a close 5-4 win against the Flint Jr. Generals.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Forest Walbeck's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Walbeck had two goals and one assist to lead Battle Creek. Walbeck scored the first of his two goals at 19:48 into the second period to make the score 4-4. Kyle Ward picked up the assist. Walbeck's next tally made the score 5-4 Battle Creek with 1:39 left in the third period. Stephen Comperchi assisted on the tally.

The Revolution forced Flint's netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ted Barile made seven stops and Ryan Running made 20. Battle Creek put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Generals to score on any of their three power plays. The Revolution's goal total was higher than their season average. Battle Creek averages 2.2 goals per game.

Battle Creek additionally got points from Joey Lioy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Battle Creek also got a goal from Jacob Rosek as well. Other players who recorded assists for Battle Creek were Joshua Kimber, Michael Schmitt, James Romberger, and Jack Iandoli, who contributed one a piece.

Flint kept the Revolution's goalie busy throughout the game, and Hughes made 40 saves on 44 shots.

The Jr. Generals were led by Jacob Howie, who racked up two goals. Howie scored the first of his two goals at 19:13 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Battle Creek. Zachery Hill provided the assist. Howie's next tally made the score 3-3 with 9:56 left in the second period. Timothy Conser assisted on the tally. Jacob Peacock also scored for Flint. In addition, Flint received assists from Ian Teal, who had one and Nicholas Gnagni, who had two.

Battle Creek incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Flint incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
