Toledo falls to Three Rivers after surprising comeback

The Three Rivers Vengeance rallied from two goals down to secure a 5-4 win over the Toledo Cherokee.

Three Rivers let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Vengeance took a 2-1 advantage on a power play goal by Chase Leonelli at 6:16 in the second period. Three Rivers went down 4-2 after Toledo's Brandon Layman put the puck home at 5:08 in the third period. After knotting things up at 4-4 on a goal by Leonelli at 11:54 in the third, the Vengeance got the game-winner from Kevin Kenny at 18:21 in the third period.

Kenny had a great game for Three Rivers, netting two goals.

The Vengeance took advantage of the Cherokee's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Three Rivers also got a goal from Ian Wood as well. More assists for Three Rivers came via Thomas Leistner, who had two, Patrick Coburn, who had three, and Brooks Antill, Jonathan Kostial, Alex Berardinelli, Tyler Stockwell, and Robbie Sigurdsson, who each chipped in one.

Toledo kept Three Rivers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Erlichman made 46 saves on 50 shots.

Toledo also got points from Jordan Fogarty, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tyler Zalecki also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Kyler Omey, who had two and Jake Manders, Zachary Armstrong, Blake Podgorski, Nicholas Brazeal, and Ben Torchia, who contributed one a piece.

The Vengeance incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Nathan Miller recorded 17 saves for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
