Three Rivers survives Queen City comeback, wins 5-4

The Queen City Steam tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Three Rivers Vengeance held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Patrick Coburn put Three Rivers up 5-3 in the third period, but Queen City pulled to within one on Damien Lona's tally 18:08 into the third period.

The Vengeance put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Steam to score on any of their three power plays. Three Rivers forced Queen City goalie Matt McLaughlin to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Three Rivers also got points from Alex Berardinelli, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Nico Vecchio, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Three Rivers came via Michael Straub and Tyler Stepke, who contributed one a piece.

The Steam struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

Queen City additionally got points from Eric Woodward, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nick Brusa also scored for Queen City. In addition, Queen City received assists from John Bonta and Trevor Voelker, who each chipped in one.

Stepke rejected 26 shots on goal for the Vengeance. Three Rivers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. McLaughlin recorded 28 saves for Queen City.
