Three Rivers outlasts Queen City, 4-3

The game between the Three Rivers Vengeance and the Queen City Steam was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Three Rivers emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tom Diffendal secured the win for the Vengeance with a goal in the third period.

Three Rivers pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 50 penalty minutes.

The Vengeance were paced by Diffendal, who grabbed one goal. Diffendal scored on the power play 19:15 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Three Rivers. Three Rivers had gained a power play chance when Lucas McCammant was whistled for tripping. Nicholas Santiago assisted on the tally.

The Vengeance put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Queen City to score on any of its 11 power plays.

Three Rivers also got a goal from Tyler Berry as well. In addition, Three Rivers received assists from Jonah Hoover, who had two and Daniel Trageser, Stephen Budkey, Ian Wood, and Michael Straub, who each chipped in one.

The Steam forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. Queen City surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Steam were helped by Damien Lona, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Lona scored 9:45 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Three Rivers. Eric Woodward provided the assist. Queen City additionally got points from Woodward, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chase Engdahl also scored for Queen City. More assists for Queen City came via Trevor Voelker, Henry Smith, Trevor Knoll, and Hyo Jun Baek, who contributed one a piece.

Matthew Erlichman made 27 saves for Three Rivers on 30 shots. The Vengeance registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Matt McLaughlin rejected 23 shots on goal for Queen City. For the Steam, Stephen Pack was ejected from the game.
