Three Rivers beats Metro 6-4 as Vecchio gets hat trick

The Metro Jets could not stop the Three Rivers Vengeance's Nico Vecchio, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-4 win.

Vecchio's first goal came 3:31 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:05 into the third and at 19:08 into the third.

Metro's power play was ineffective against Three Rivers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Vengeance were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. Three Rivers surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Vengeance stifled the Jets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Three Rivers forced Metro goalie Austin Julvezan to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Three Rivers additionally got points from Alex Berardinelli, who also had one goal and one assist and Tom Diffendal, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Ian Wood also scored for Three Rivers. More assists for Three Rivers came via Kevin Kenny, Chase Leonelli, and Michael Straub, who contributed one a piece.

The Jets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Metro had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jets put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Vengeance to score on any of their five power plays. Metro's offense rang up 33 shots on Three Rivers' net.

The Jets were helped by Matt Stirling, who had one goal and two assists. Stirling scored 6:19 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Three Rivers. Anthony Saleh picked up the assist. Metro also got points from Andrew Palushaj, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Metro also got a goal from Brian Ziola as well. In addition, Metro received assists from Kyle Shreve, who had one.

The Vengeance's Tyler Stepke stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Austin Julvezan made 38 saves for Metro on 43 shots. The Jets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Lawrence was ejected from the game.
