Queen City survives Battle Creek comeback, wins 4-2The Rink - B. Creek Sat, Jan 05, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Battle Creek Revolution tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Queen City Steam held on for a 4-2 victory. A goal by Thomas Clayton put Queen City up 4-1 in the third period, but Battle Creek pulled to within two on Stephen Comperchi's tally 11:17 into the third period. The Revolution's power play was ineffective against the Steam's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Queen City was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Steam surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Queen City was helped by Henry Smith, who grabbed one goal. Smith scored 15:43 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Queen City. Lucas McCammant assisted on the tally. Chase Engdahl also scored for Queen City. More assists for Queen City came via Trevor Voelker and Robert Gentile, who contributed one a piece. The Battle Creek penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Revolution had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Battle Creek put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Steam to score on any of their four power plays. Battle Creek also got a goal from Kyle Ward as well. In addition, Battle Creek received assists from James Romberger and Derek Dodge, who each chipped in one. Matt McLaughlin made 17 saves for Queen City on 19 shots. Hughes recorded 23 saves for the Revolution.
