Cleveland outlasts Flint, 6-4

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks and the Flint Jr. Generals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cleveland made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Jr. Lumberjacks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cameron Dimmitt 12:09 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Dimmitt had two goals and one assist to lead Cleveland.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Cleveland surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Flint was unable to stop the Jr. Lumberjacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cleveland eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Cleveland additionally got points from Mike Palasics, who also finished with one goal and two assists and David Fassbender, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Cleveland also got a goal from Dallas Szustak as well. More assists for Cleveland came via Andrew Sprouse and Andrew Mitch, who contributed one a piece and Scott Cuthrell, Dominic Valencia, and Zach Seither, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Generals forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie David Heflin to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Flint could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Jr. Generals were led by Nicholas Gnagni, who racked up one goal and two assists. Gnagni scored on the power play 19:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. Flint had gotten the advantage when Cleveland's Szustak was sent off for slashing. Adrain Larsson picked up the assist. Flint also got points from Jacob Howie, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nicholas Goetel also scored for Flint. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Phillip Garza, Eric Jones, and Edward Osowski, who contributed one a piece.

Heflin rejected 34 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Jr. Lumberjacks, Nick Balavich was ejected from the game. Anders Franke recorded 33 saves for the Jr. Generals. Flint registered four goals on 10 power play opportunities.
