Joey Lioy scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Battle Creek Revolution picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-0 SO) win over the Queen City Steam. The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Battle Creek's other shootout goal was scored by Lioy.The Revolution overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Battle Creek was down 3-2 after a goal by Queen City's Nick Brusa at 6:26 in the third period. The Revolution tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zach Rees at 14:56 in the third period. The Steam's power play was ineffective against Battle Creek's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Revolution forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Battle Creek surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Revolution found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Battle Creek averages 1.9 goal per contest. The Revolution were led by Lioy, who tallied one goal. Lioy scored on the power play 4:05 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Battle Creek had taken the advantage when Queen City's Brad Ringwald got sent off for boarding. Jacob Rosek assisted on the tally. Cory Markovich also scored for Battle Creek. More assists for Battle Creek came via Austin Hill, who had two and Kyle Ward and Stephen Comperchi, who contributed one a piece. The Steam racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Queen City had been spending in the box. Queen City also got points from Trevor Knoll, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Queen City also got a goal from James Ervin as well. In addition, Queen City received assists from Thomas Clayton, who had two and Kyle Johnson, Taylor Penman, and Damien Lona, who each chipped in one. Jackson Steltmann recorded 21 saves for the Revolution. Battle Creek registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Revolution ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and James Romberger was ejected from the game. The Steam's Austin Coulson stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. For Queen City, Matt Eckhardt was ejected from the game.
