Santopoalo nets hat trick, leads North Iowa to 8-3 win over Minnesota

Timothy Santopoalo netted a hat trick to lead the North Iowa Bulls over the Minnesota Flying Aces, 8-3.

Santopoalo got on the scoresheet 9:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:12 into the first and at 9:27 into the second.

North Iowa led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring four goals in the second.

The Bulls forced Minnesota's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. Christan Michalik made 15 stops and Allen Patten made 13. North Iowa found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Bulls average 5.9 goals per contest. North Iowa cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances.

North Iowa also got points from Joseph Burgmeier, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Connor Langfield, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Taylor Brown, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. North Iowa also got a goal from Eric Behrend as well. More assists for North Iowa came via James Hughes, who had three and Chancie Hanson, Tyler Burg, Matt Kroska, Tony Paulson, and Kyle Gonzalez, who each chipped in one.

The Flying Aces were led by Jared Sprink, who registered one goal and one assist. Sprink scored on the power play 10:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Minnesota had taken the advantage when the Bulls' Paulson got sent off for slashing. Alec Brandup assisted on the tally. Andre Pison also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Payton Trammel, who had two and Patrick Kegley and Blake Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Matthew Bartels rejected 18 shots on goal for North Iowa. The Bulls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flying Aces incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
