Queen City outlasts Battle Creek, 5-3The Sphere Sat, Dec 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Queen City Steam escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Battle Creek Revolution. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Trevor Knoll secured the win for Queen City with a goal in the second period. Nick Brusa had one goal and two assists to lead the Steam. Brusa scored 5:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Queen City. Knoll assisted on the tally. In a losing effort, Battle Creek was sparked by Kyle Ward, who racked up two goals and one assist. Ward scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A kneeing penalty on Chas Johnson had put the Revolution on the power play. Stephen Comperchi picked up the assist. Ward's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Queen City with 9:33 left in the second period. Battle Creek was unable to stop Queen City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Steam eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Queen City's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Steam average 2.8 goals per contest. Queen City also got points from Lucas McCammant, who also registered one goal and one assist, Damien Lona, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Knoll, who also had one goal and one assist. James Ervin also scored for Queen City. Other players who recorded assists for Queen City were Devin Fracassi, who had two and Thomas Clayton and Emil Sundstrom, who each chipped in one. The defensemen of the Revolution were also effective in Queen City's zone, and came away with two goals. Battle Creek also got a goal from Tevor Clark as well. In addition, Battle Creek received assists from James Romberger, who had one. Matt McLaughlin made 23 saves for the Steam on 26 shots. Queen City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jackson Steltmann recorded 27 saves for Battle Creek. The Revolution incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
