Cleveland survives Metro comeback, wins 2-1

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Metro Jets on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Jake Roeper put Cleveland up 2-0 in the third period, but Metro pulled to within one on Andrew Palushaj's tally 19:13 into the third period.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were led by Roeper, who tallied one goal. Roeper scored on the power play 10:32 into the third period to make the score Cleveland. Cleveland had gained a power play chance when Brodie Wilson was whistled for slashing. Nick Balavich provided the assist.

The Jr. Lumberjacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Cleveland could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Lumberjacks average 4.4 goals per game. Cleveland forced the Jets goalie Alex Nedeljkovic to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Cleveland also got points from Balavich, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Bo Zinner, Mike Palasics, and Jared Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Metro did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jets put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Metro received assists from Jeff Monfils and Mike Gambino, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Lumberjacks' David Heflin stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Cleveland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alex Nedeljkovic made 47 saves for Metro on 49 shots. The Jets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
