Alexandria survives Quad City comeback, wins 3-1

The Quad City Jr. Flames tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Alexandria Blizzard held on for a 3-1 victory.

A goal by Chayce Coenen put Alexandria up 3-0 in the third period, but Quad City pulled to within two on Harley Manus' tally 10:55 into the third period.

The Jr. Flames were stymied by the Blizzard netminder Kyle Miller, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Miller will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.99.

Alexandria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Blizzard's offense rang up 43 shots on Quad City's net.

Alexandria was helped by Tanner Duffney, who grabbed one goal. Duffney scored on the power play 8:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alexandria. The Blizzard earned a power play opportunity when Tanner Litvinoff was put in the box for roughing. Coenen picked up the assist. Alexandria additionally got points from Coenen, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Zach Hill also scored for Alexandria. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Ian Eckland, who had two and Austin Rudnick and Mick Dhein, who each chipped in one.

In addition, Quad City received assists from Ross Mullen, who had one.

Alexandria incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Robby Vukelich rejected 40 shots on goal for the Jr. Flames. Quad City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
