Granite City blows out Minnesota, 7-2

The Granite City Lumberjacks were firing on all cylinders against the Minnesota Flying Aces, and when the final buzzer sounded Lumberjacks emerged with a 7-2 win.

Granite City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 32 penalty minutes.

The Lumberjacks were led by Nick Turbitt, who had one goal and one assist. Turbitt scored 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Granite City. Aaron Storch provided the assist.

Granite City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Minnesota power plays. The Lumberjacks' goal total was higher than their season average. Granite City averages 4.9 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Granite City also got points from Matt Raiola, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Storch, who also registered one goal and one assist. Granite City also got a goal from Eric Miller as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Blake Phenow and Mitch Humphries, who contributed one a piece and Dakoda Menslage and DJ Vold, who each chipped in two.

Minnesota excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

The Flying Aces were helped by Payton Trammel, who grabbed one goal. Trammel scored 10:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Blake Williams assisted on the tally. Chase Myers-Beck also scored for Minnesota. More assists for Minnesota came via Zach Randell and Billy Wagner, who contributed one a piece.

Austin Wilson made 27 saves for the Lumberjacks on 29 shots. Granite City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Menslage was ejected from the game. Allen Patten rejected 20 shots on goal for Minnesota. The Flying Aces incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
